Ayman Bejjani is a recent UNC graduate from Holly Springs, North Carolina. At UNC, he was a pre-dental student who majored in music and minored in chemistry, and was the recipient of the Kenan Music Scholarship. Ayman has played classical violin since the age of 4 and has developed a deep passion for chamber music—he loves the joy and the challenges of collaborative music making. Ayman also enjoys music production, where he has written and produced several singles for local artists and enjoys exploring other genres, like jazz, in his free time.

Hannah Lee is a junior from Cary, North Carolina, pursuing a Bachelor of Music and a minor in Sports and Exercise Science. Hannah began her undergraduate degree with Violaine Melançon at McGill University in Montreál and transferred to UNC recently where she studies with Nicholas DiEugenio. She has won several competitions such as the Peter Perret Youth Talent Search Concerto Competition and UNC Symphony Concerto Competition. Hannah enjoys playing chamber music, spending time with her family and cooking for them.

MaryKatherine Brown recently graduated with her MM in Violin Performance from Florida State University where she studied with Dr. Shannon Thomas. She plans to continue her education at FSU to pursue a DM in Violin Performance. She has served as concertmaster of the FSU Chamber Orchestra and assistant concertmaster of the FSU Symphony Orchestra during the 2021-2022 school year, and she was named the winner of the 2022 FSU Solo Violin Competition. Outside of music, she enjoys hiking, cooking, and exploring local coffee shops.

Austen Speare grew up in the small town of Irmo, South Carolina. Inspired by his grandmother, who had been a professional cellist for over 70 years, he began playing the violin at the age of 10. Austen has enjoyed performing as a member of several ensembles; he was a founding member of the Fine Thymes String Band and of the Havillten String Quartet, which was a prize winner in the Parker String Quartet Competition. Austen is an avid outdoorsman, who enjoys backpacking along the Appalachian Trail and hopes one day to hike the entire trail in one go.
Martha-Grace Jackson is a sophomore at UNC studying computer science and music. She grew up in Charlotte, NC and is from a musical family of nine. Martha-Grace began studying violin and piano at the age of four, after being inspired by watching her mom play violin. She attended Brevard Music Center in 2019 and 2021 where she pursued orchestral and chamber music studies.

Laia Ferrer Vila is native of Barcelona where she has completed her Superior Violin Studies at Conservatori Superior del Liceu. She is nowadays active in different musical projects such as Opera productions in Palau de la Música Catalana with the NovAria orchestra, several recordings, some of them nominated to the Catalan "Enderrock" awards, and music member of the professional theatre company "Anònims Produccions" acting in different Catalan teathers. All combined with violin and music teaching jobs. This will be Laia's 3rd Luby Violin Symposium but the first one in person, and she is excited for the experience! Jazmine Gu is a student at Sterling Montessori Academy & Charter School. She started play the violin when she was five, learning in group lessons from James Stout. She is currently studying the violin with Eric Pritchard, a professor at Duke University. Before that, she had participated in some orchestra and chamber music programs at DUSS (Duke University String School) and had taken private lessons teachers including Dorothy Kitchen, Andy Bonner, and Erica Shirts. Her favorite color is lilac. Outside of playing the violin, she enjoys reading and swimming.
Maya Liu began playing the violin at the age of four at the New England Conservatory preparatory school in Boston. She is pursuing her violin studies under the guidance of Duke Prof. Eric Pritchard. She has been a part of NCCMI and MYCO chamber programs. Maya also composed her first chamber music piece for three violins at the age of 12. In her free time Maya enjoys playing with her dog Lina, her sister and brother, reading, and doing flips on the trampoline.

Rosemarie Nelson is a classically trained violinist who is currently a first-year undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She studies under violin professors Ida Bieler and Janet Orenstein. She performs with the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra and her quartet at UNCSA. In
2021, she received an honorable mention at the North Carolina Music Teachers National Association Competition. In addition to performing, Rosie teaches beginner violinists with the Vivaldi Project. She is a member of The Cross the Line Project and is interested in sharing music not only in the concert halls but in the Winston-Salem community. Laurel Meitrodt is a rising senior at UNC-Greensboro. She is getting her undergraduate degree in music education and hopes to one day teach middle school orchestra. She studies under Dr. Fabian Lopez and has been playing the violin since 6th grade. Her hobbies include reading, knitting, attempting to crochet, and playing the violin and fiddle in the UNCG Old Time ensemble!
Frances Norton is a rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill studying Music and English & Comparative Literature. During her time at UNC, she has enjoyed participating in the Kenan Music Scholarship program and playing in chamber groups and the symphony orchestra. Outside of music, she is the vice president of programs of UNC's AMF chapter. In her free time she enjoys reading, composting, and spending time with her friends and family.
Siana Wong is from Greensboro, North Carolina, and is a rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill majoring in violin performance and biology. Besides playing the violin, Siana also enjoys painting, running, and playing badminton with her sister. |
Michael Lee is a graduating senior at UNC Chapel Hill majoring in Biostatistics and minoring in Music. He has been playing violin for 8 years and is currently studying under Professor Jacqueline Wolborsky. He loves playing in a chamber group and the symphony orchestra. After graduation, Michael plans on studying medicine. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis and drinking coffee. Alexander McDowell is from Durham, North Carolina and currently studies violin with Dovid Friedlander and Jennifer Curtis. Alexander is a passionate musician who has studied violin for 10 years and enjoys solo and chamber music. Alexander has performed as soloist with the Winston-Salem Symphony and others, as well as played in masterclasses with Augustine Hadelich, James Ehnes, Randall Goosby, and the Harlem Quartet. He has enjoyed violin summer programs such as Meadowmount and NYU Summer Strings. When not playing violin, Alexander enjoys baseball and spending time in nature.
Amelia Posner-Hess is from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and she studies with Dr. Fabian Lopez at UNCG. Amelia is a senior in high school at Carolina Friends School, and will be attending the Eastman School of Music this fall as an undergraduate student. Outside of violin, Amelia enjoys reading and hiking, and is passionate about social justice. |
